Student living in condo clashes with roommate after she eats food set aside for guests, student uses roommate’s groceries in return, sparking drama and threats of moving out: 'Tore into me for using her groceries. Pretty ironic I think'

We've all heard the "Did you eat my yoghurt?" roommate debate time and time again, but it seems this one may be a tad more hypocritical…

The problem with moving in with a stranger is that it truly is a matter of luck of the draw. You have the chance to make a best friend for life…or in many cases, an enemy for life. It's kind of like the game of roulette, there are only two options: win or lose! This may be an unpopular opinion, but weirdly I think it's better to learn the "frustrating" quirks and qualities of a new roommate early on…That way, you have time to make an escape route if needed. It's almost worse to think you're living with this 10/10 person, all for them to dramatically disappoint you over time. Now you're stuck with this person you've shared some great memories with, but can't differentiate between whether they've simply changed, or were just hiding that they're a complete mess (literally and figuratively!). 

My recommendation would be to move in with someone who knows how to balance you out, with their greatest quality being patience. Move in with a best friend. I know people say it's risky, but if someone already knows you well, it is less likely that they'll discover a whole lot more they don't like. Because when you move in with a stranger, you are yet to learn their eating patterns, cleaning patterns, and the little "he's just staying over for two nights" routine…Because before you know it, there's pasta in the shower and a random man living in the second bedroom, rent-free!
